Our Vision
Sustera Foundation was established in 2017 with a vision premised on the need for addressing the climate urgency in the state of Kerala. The name SUSTERA is derived from the Latin word ‘TERRA’ (earth). The words ‘Susthiram’ in Malayalam and ‘Susthir’ in Hindi/Sanskrit also refer to sustainability.
Our mission is to create a robust lot of passionate individuals who can drive change and lead climate action for Kerala. Our verticals of engagement are multidimensional in nature ranging from research, policy, and grassroots mobilization to entrepreneurship development and climate education. In the last 5 years, we have extensively worked towards handholding stakeholders in co-creating Climate Resilient & Climate Responsible Communities and scaling up climate solutions.
We at Sustera, drive collective action through capacity-building training, campaigns, and policy dialogues to equip communities to adapt better to climate disasters and climate change.
We collaborate with governments, civil society organizations, and the private sector to envision solutions for climate challenges that have the potential to be scaled up and replicated. Our core values remain rooted in engaging maximum voices and enabling people from various backgrounds to take up climate advocacy. Sustera’s interventions at the moment are within Kerala and the adjoining western ghat's biodiversity hotspots.
